Learn stained glass: Design, Drawing, Painting or Leading in a homely, informal setting of Jamal Rafay’s artist studio in Birmingham!  

A one day crash course covers, basic introduction, design for stained glass, Medium, Materials, Cartooning, Glass cutting, Glass painting Or learn the art of Glass Leading. To get the best out of it, a particular aspect of the craft can also be covered for example, glass painting or drawing, a tailor-made coaching is approached to assist your own needs. 

For participants, No previous stained glass experience is necessary.  A maximum of 2-3 participants per indoor workshops. Workshops with bigger groups are run in a professional covered tent in the garden and are popular especially in summers. 

Jamal is a professional stained glass artist, who has been producing quality stained glass from his studio in Birmingham, UK. He is into art for the last 24 years and in stained glass for the last 13 years. He has worked for several years at John Hardman Studios (est. 1838) as a chief designer.  Since 2010-11 he has established himself as an independant stained glass artist and educator. 

What's included? 

The course contents depend on participant's requirements. From a very basic introduction to professional stained glass coaching is provided within our workshops. The beginners learn the essential stained glass skills: from design, drawing, glass cutting, painting and so on. 

All equipment and materials are provided to use during the course. Participants do not have to bring anything as such, a sketchbook, photos, previous work or ideas can be helpful but not necessary. 

Coloured pieces of glass to cover approx 6-7 inch square inch, circles or rectangles or fragments are provided.... enough materials for a workshop and to learn glass painting skills. In painting workshops, glass is fired at the end of every session. The process of kiln firing takes some hours, so the finished piece can either be collected on a later day or can also be posted if required. Plenty of designs, patterns are made available to work from. Colourful glass piece/s and required glass tools are also provided! Participants can bring their own gloves and aprons if they like, although these are also provided in every workshop. Professional participants can always bring their own preferred and required materials in case of a specific/special project. Some limited material can also be purchased at the studio.

Bring a packed lunch - we'll provide tea, coffee and fruits according to the weather and availability! :)

Workshop timings 9:00 am to 15:00pm ... I'll have the kettle on at 8:55!

Multiple workshops are held each month, please contact to choose and book your preferred dates.
Weekdays are preferred but weekend workshops are also available. At least two participants are booked per workshop to make it feasible. It is also helpful to know in organising workshops if there are any preferred dates.  you can send few preferreddate options as well with your enquiry.
